The Spirit Trail
"Let every creature I see...be a brother and a friend to me...
Let every step that I take...leave the foot prints of a warrior...on this spirit trail."
(Dan Fogelberg:The Wild Places)
The following list is dedicated to everyone who devotes their lives, souls and time to protect the creatures of this earth. For each little one we help ... we help ourselves ... to grow, love and learn. Each life teaches us to be a better person. Each act of unconditional love teaches us how to love each other better.
The Enchanted Whisper community is ever growing and we would like to extend an invitation to join us. If you have a gift or service to share with others that you would like added to this page please contact me.

This is a wonderful new alliance developed by some of the members of the blind dogs group I belong to. I whole heartedly support this group and their mission to create a site dedicated to the rescue and adoption of blind and visually impaired dogs.
Blind Dog Rescue Alliance
“Welcome to Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. We are a small group of volunteers spread out throughout the United States (and even a couple in Canada!) who are dedicated to advocating for blind and visually impaired dogs by rescuing dogs in shelters, helping blind dog owners, and educating the public. We formed in 2009, though our members have many years of experience with blind dogs, and with rescue.
We are always looking for volunteers; let us know if you want to help us! So please look over our website, visit our blind dogs for adoption, read their stories, and we think you will agree that "blind dogs see with their hearts!"

Sashaville at Blogspot
This is a site which lists several blogs about blind dogs. It is a wonderful testament to the love of the humans who call them their “fur babies”. Reading the posts made me laugh....then made me cry. As I read about a beautiful dog named Sasha…her life and eventual passing....the song "you’re beautiful" was playing in the background....and made me cry more.
These little ones....they bring so much joy and love to our lives. The pain we feel when they leave is like nothing else....yet we know that is was all worth it. The pain just means that we loved....with all our heart and soul...and how can anyone ever regret that?

I joined the following group when my little girl went blind due to diabetes. This group has been a life saver for me. Many of the members have become not just my friends...but also my family. I encourage anyone who has a blind dog companion to join this wonderful support group. Here is their introduction..
Support Group for Owners of Blind Dogs
"Welcome all owners of blind dogs! We are owners of blind/visually impaired dogs and offer support and information in an effort to help you and your dog adjust to their new challenge. Although it's difficult for you now - most dogs adjust well and live happy, full lives. Upon joining we ask you post a introduction. Welcome!"
We have a Blinddog Rescue list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blinddogs-rescue for anyone wanting to rescue or help with rescue/adoption of blind or visually impaired dogs.
If you have a blind and deaf dog, there is now a Blind and Deaf Dog list at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blind-deaf-dogs
Note: Although you are able to read the Blind Dog list on the yahoogroups web site, to post to the group you do need to be a subscribed member.
You may also want to visit the List Home site at http://www.blinddogs.com/ for a lot of different links and information.
If you have any questions about joining please send an email to the Blind dog admin group at blinddogs-admin@egroups.com

BDAlbum is an online group that I belong to. It is a wonderful group filled with support, laughter and friends. I love this group and everyone in it! There are some really fun and extremely FUNNY people in this group that help fill my days with plenty of laughter and fun. The following is a description of the group composed by members of it.
BDAlbum, though a place for folks dealing with blind dogs, is not solely exclusive to that topic. Originally set up so more pictures could be viewed, it has expanded into a family. We allow jokes to be posted and off topic issues that our people are dealing with that are not related specifically to their blind dogs. We do not sensor. We are open, we are accepting. We allow our dealing with blind dogs to not be the only thing "about us". BDAlbum also allows those of us who have lost our blind dog to still hang out with friends we've made over the years and honor our loved furkids that have passed.

Karen is a friend of mine through Blind Dogs and BDAlbum. She currently runs and/or helps run the following web sites that help with support, education and the adoption of blind dogs.
The goal is to try and help ALL blind dogs, & ALL blind dog owners. I [Karen] am still running the web site www.blinddogs.net that offers blind dog stories, tips for blind dogs & blind dog adoption listings. I am also the only active moderator on Dave's blind dog support board at http://blinddog.info/msgbd/. At one time blinddogs.com had adoption listings, but are now referring people to my site for adoption listings. I have many rescues across the US contact me weekly to list their own blind dogs, and only one volunteer that helps me with locating others through Petfinder.com to list.

Second Chance Animal Rescue is a group very near and dear to my heart. I have done as much volunteer work with them as I have been able to. This is a wonderful group who works hard to find homes for special needs animals who might otherwise never have a chance. The volunteers in this group are wonderful people who do extraordinary things. Their introduction is below.
Second Chance Animal Rescue
"Second Chance Animal Rescue NM, Inc., is a grass roots group that really began its work in early 2007 and focuses on saving abused and homeless animals and readying them for adoption to loving, forever homes. We are all volunteer and all foster-based (we don't have a facility) and our foster homes help the dogs adjust to living with people and other pets.
Second Chance dogs are fully vetted (spayed/neutered, micro chipped and current on vaccines) and adoptive families are carefully screened. We do many of our adoptions off our website www.secondchancenm.petfinder.com and other adoptive families are found at our adoption events (held at different venues in Albuquerque and Corrales). We try very hard to recruit new foster families; they really make the difference in how many dogs w e can help at a time!
Our dedicated volunteer group believes that every dog deserves a second or third or fourth chance at a healthy, happy life. We tend to be drawn to the saddest cases: the dogs in protective custody at animal services for months on end, the dogs rescued from lives on the end of a chain, even if the chain has to be surgically removed, the dogs who are hit by cars and their owners can't be bothered claiming them and saving their lives; the situations we have rescued dogs from are vast and sad. This often results in our group incurring very high medical cost. Our goal is to also be involved in legislation and education to better the lives of the animals in our community.
We have a couple of continuous fundraisers: we collect inactive cell phones which can be turned into a company to refurbish them (and they send us $) and our donation boxes which we have in several locations around town. We hold yard sales several times a year and welcome any donations for the yard sales."

Joyce Fay is a rescuer who has a wonderful web site that lists several animal rescue agencies in the state of New Mexico. She also provides a place for rescue groups to list animals that they have up for adoption. She works tirelessly to help animals in need find the forever homes that they deserve.
